UTSW PETER O’DONNELL BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH BUILDOUT
- Development of six floors of 97,000-square-foot space featuring administrative offices, tissue culture and anatomy labs, a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory, and comprehensive animal research facilities, including a modern vivarium and a 24/7 clinically staffed walk-in center. The Peter O’Donnell Jr. Biomedical Research Building supports strategic growth in neuroscience, cancer research, and translational medicine.
- Integration of BSL-3 and ABSL-2 environments with negative air pressure, airlocks, and HEPA filtration, as well as vibration-isolated imaging labs engineered for precision research and advanced microscopy.
- Installation of a new 3,500-ton chiller in the north thermal energy plant and approximately 10,000 tons of total cooling capacity, supported by redundant HVAC and chilled-water systems to ensure uninterrupted, mission-critical operations.
- Vivarium addition for animal research facilities with advanced housing and surgical suites, including automated environmental controls that support sensitive research protocols.
- Implementation of raised flooring, N+1 redundancy across major building systems, and robust infrastructure designed to deliver continuous performance in high-demand environments.
- Equipped with FM-200 fire suppression, high-level security measures including biometric access controls, and specialized containment systems to maintain strict safety standards.
- Designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, seamlessly connecting research initiatives across the North Campus and advancing innovation in biomedical discovery.
